With New Year’s coming this weekend, the collective commitment to self-improvement provides a great moment to talk about the power of plants.

Moving to a whole, unprocessed plant-based diet is the most important action that I have taken for all aspects of my health, including weight loss and maintenance.

Most information around health and weight loss encourages eating plants in some way, so knowing the benefits of plants certainly was not news to me.

Still, I am stunned by the depth of what I have learned from delving into nutritional science. And, I am even more stunned by the differences in how I feel – once I got through the withdrawal from addictive foods.

Eating plants has transformed all aspects of my life.

To cover the wide-ranging impact of plants would be impossible in one blog post – especially as I experiment with writing more frequently.

But, eating whole, unprocessed nutrient-dense plants is central to my story of losing weight and gaining health.  For now, here are the benefits that first come to mind.

  • Plants helped me lose half my weight.

  • Plants provide a powerful antidote to food addiction in my life.

  • Plants make me feel better, more energetic, and younger than I ever have in my life.

  • Plants keep my mind sharp and clear.

  • Plants provide psychological freedom from worrying about eating too much of the wrong foods.

  • Plants allow me to be more active than I have ever been.

  • Plants give me long-lasting endurance for physical activities.

  • Plants make me strong.

  • Plants allow me to recover quickly and easily from intense exercise.

  • Plants provide the foundation for being in the best shape of my life.

  • Plants help me feel great – all day, every day.

I often say that if the way I feel could be packaged in a pill, everyone would want it.

The transition to a plant-based lifestyle can be difficult, but the results are worth it. Making this transition was a multiyear process for me.

Plants play a starring role in the ongoing transformation of my shadows, and they may do the same for you.

Note: I am not a medical doctor. If you are making dietary changes in your life, be sure to consult your medical professional.
