I liked myself, but I did not like the fact that I could not find a way act on what I knew was best for me. Now, I like myself and the fact that I can act on what I know … most of the time.

Finding My Golden Center

People often ask why I made the decision to lose weight. At the golden center of it was my health and wellness. For years, I knew what I should be doing, but I didn’t know how to do it and sustain it. Because this is such a hard process, people need to find a why, a golden center for making the change.

My golden center comes into focus most profoundly between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am, when I no longer live in fear about what my choices are doing to me, when I feel freedom from a lifelong conflict around food. I knew nutrition and health facts as well as anyone, if not better than most. But, I could not find a way to act on what I knew.

At night, I worried most about this conflict. I worried what my choices were doing to my body, to my future, to those I loved. I felt such profound regret during those hours and such profound fear of the future. I worried about cancer, heart disease, heart attacks, and long-drawn out illnesses.

The freedom from these worries feels phenomenal; of course, all of those could still happen to me, but I am taking proactive, preventative action, and I can sleep a lot better as a result of that. Additionally, stories of healing in the plant-based world are profound. The statement is often made: The body wants to heal.

That freedom alone is worth the efforts that this ongoing lifestyle change takes. And, that does not even take into account what I call a sensuality of wellness that comes with eating this way. Truly, I feel incredible. Life is colorful and vibrant.

The energy that my current life takes and the energy that morbid obesity took are equivalent. Living in the positive feels so much better. My lifestyle takes me out of that internal conflict around my health and places me into a beautiful golden center of living, one step at a time.
