It didn’t happen because of one piece of broccoli
Big transformations are made of tiny steps.
The power of one is nothing—and everything.
There was a time I couldn’t imagine things being different.
But each small decision carried its own quiet weight.
And over time, I learned—never say never.
One piece of broccoli didn’t change my life — but it showed up every time I did.
We love to talk about transformation as if it happens all at once.
But in truth, real change is made of tiny moments that repeat.
This is one of them.
This didn’t happen with one piece of broccoli—
although one piece of broccoli did play a role, over and over again.
It didn’t come from avoiding one chip or choosing one cucumber—
although that happened again and again.
The power of one small decision at a time adds up. Broccoli has been a part of my healthy eating, even though I sometimes have to fight myself to eat it.
When I look at photos of myself—before and after—I see the same person.
The same strengths. The same struggles.
But I’m living two very different lives.
This transformation didn’t come from one decision.
It came from a process. Step by step. Day by day.
It came from staying with the work.
Change is a process, even if it feels like a destination.
The photos might mark a moment, but the work lives in what happens between them.
This is a process space.
Not a quick fix. Not a “how-to.”
It’s a space for reflection, honesty, and action—because real change happens in the middle of the mess.
Big transformations are made up of tiny steps.
The power of one is nothing—and everything.
One piece of broccoli means almost nothing on its own…
and everything in this journey—again and again and again.
You can’t control the number on the scale.
But you can control your next step.
And even if you once said never—
never again, never possible, never me—
you might find yourself becoming someone you never imagined.
This reflection is part of my ongoing Eat When Hungry body of work, and part of Transform Shadows—a space where change begins by stepping into the shadows and letting the light in.
My Transform Shadows Framework
This is the framework that I use to explain my ongoing mental processes to build successes and handle failures in my health journey and my broader life.
Name the shadows.
Honesty is the starting point. For me, it began with naming binge eating.
Face the shadows.
Truth alone isn’t enough—I had to act on what I knew, not just carry it.
Understand the shadows.
Misinformation runs deep. Understanding what’s true for me helped me move forward.
Fight the shadows.
Instincts and pressures pulled hard. Fighting meant doing something different—on purpose.
Reframe the shadows.
Change took root when I saw food, hunger, and myself in new ways.
Transcend the shadows.
Some days feel effortless. Living well becomes its own rhythm—and something I want to return to.
