My Framework for Personal Change

This is an overview of my Transform Shadows Framework. This framework helps me tell my story about the mental processes that I used to be successful in losing weight and maintaining weight loss. It also overviews the different areas that I needed to learn about in order to transform my personal shadows.

These mental actions may help you guide change within yourself. I use these for my self-talk in many ways. Try them and see if they work for you:

  • NAME Your Shadows

  • FACE Your Shadows

  • UNDERSTAND Your Shadows

  • FIGHT Your Shadows

  • REFRAME Your Shadows

  • TRANSCEND Your Shadows

I wish I transcended my shadows all the time, but my life does not work that way. When things are easy and effortless in my lifestyle, those moments of transcendence are glorious.

Most days feel great but require work. Some days are really hard. The fight against my biology and genetics can be really difficult in this food environment when food that is my undoing surrounds me.

My Eat When Hungry Venn Diagram

Similarly, look at the chart of my story and see if this can help you understand your own personal Eat to Hungry story. To help you do that, consider these questions.

  • How do you REFLECT and ACT for change?

  • What knowledge do you need around FOOD ADDICTION (or ADDICTIVE FOODS) and/or your HUNGER DRIVE in order to stop working against your personal best interests?

  • What FOODS do you need to eat and what WELLNESS actions do you need to take to center your health?

  • What do you need to know about your own WEIGHT and GENETICS in order to center success and your own best interests?

  • How do you understand and navigate your own personal IDENTITY, including your sense of SELF and your relationships with OTHERS?

I encourage you to consider these overall ideas because these are common themes in people’s stories, in their successes, and their failures.

Your specifics may be different than mine. There are many pathways to success, even around the same science. We learn from each other, and I have learned from others in important ways.

Sometimes, I see people in the weight loss world become divided on issues that do not matter much to those of us fighting personal wars. Instead of being told THE answer, we need to know possibilities to work through to find our own answers.

So take a look, reflect on the ideas, use the ideas that help you, and chart your own adventure. Find your power and be the hero of your journey!

Video Content Text Overviewing My Framework for Personal Change

At the top is my Transform Shadows Framework. These mental actions help me succeed over time, especially in dealing with failure. Failure lurks in my shadows, and I often fail.

To succeed, I name my shadows, I face my shadows, I understand my shadows, fight, reframe, and when all goes well, transcend my shadows.

I also needed knowledge to succeed. And, the knowledge centers around Eat When Hungry.

To Eat When Hungry, I had a lot of learning to do. I had to learn to reflect and act for my success. I needed to use knowledge around Food Addiction and my Hunger Drive to change.

I also had to learn what foods to eat to satiate my hunger and to center my own health and wellness through sleep and exercise.

I needed to understand my own weight and personal genetic tendencies, including different dimensions of my own hunger drive that I never understood before.

Finally, I worked through issues of identity that impacted my self concept and my relationships with others.

All of these helped me succeed, to Transform Shadows.
