Moderation Was Never Going to Work: Processed Foods Are the Problem
In mainstream society, there are many misconceptions around weight, weight loss, obesity, and morbid obesity. One of the central misconceptions is that obesity is caused by personal shortcomings.
Understanding the role of processed foods in my weight has helped me see myself and my weight differently. Years and years of failing at moderation taught me that moderation was never going to be the answer.
My body is highly reactive to the addictive power of foods. I have learned to feel the cause-relationship effect in my body and to follow that relationship between specific foods and how they impact my body.
For me, seeing different cause-effect relationships around my weight has helped me understand why I am the way I am. Understanding the role of addictive foods has been an important part of my puzzle, but this is not the whole story for me.
Finding my hunger drive has been one of the most complex undertakings of my life. But, now that I see my hunger drive, I cannot "unsee" it.
And, that means I also always have a clear action plan. Most of the time, I embrace that action plan. But, there are definitely times I do not like or want the action plan that defines my life – even when following my action plan positively impacts every area of my life.
