I had planned to get to the Farmers’ Market on Tuesday or Thursday. Work changed my plans, and I ran out of groceries. I prioritized getting fresh greens on Saturday after working at an event, and I kept my balance during a time when I was starting to wobble.

My unhealthy shadowy self tried to coax my healthy self back into old patterns, but I exercised the right muscles to keep my health at the center and am back on track today.

Lose a Few Battles to Win the War: Navigating Life’s Busy times

Life gets crazy, and there are times when the battle to maintain a work-life balance feels impossible around my overall goal: Eat When Hungry.

For most of my life, I have thrown in the towel during times of work-life business. To be clear, I ate too many unhealthy foods in too high of quantities.

I have to stay out of these self-destructive patterns if I want to center health and wellness in my life and continue living at half my weight.

To that end, these are my real self-talk thoughts and strategies today, so that I do not have to start tomorrow when life opens up again.

  • Keep the big rocks. Let the small rocks go.

  • Food is the most important rock. Always.

  • No Salt. No Oil. No Sugar. Period.

  • Eat fresh leafy greens, beans, and oatmeal.

  • Eat fruits and whole grains over nuts.

  • Rebalance and fine-tune later.

I may lose a few battles right now because my balances will get off. As that happens, I will probably overeat.

But, this is the way I win the long-term war to Eat When Hungry, stringing together more successes than failures to transform shadows.
